About this resource
Three mice push a pumpkin from three different sides, and it doesn’t budge. It’s a Relationship Skills set of SEL reading comprehension for early elementary classrooms.

A look inside

- The Birds That Build One Giant Nest: sociable weaver birds build one huge nest with many rooms and share it.
- My Idea Made It Into the Poster: Wren worries her group won’t use her idea, but her rainbow drawing ends up on the poster.
- A Cardboard Castle Rises in Our Classroom: groups build towers, walls and decorations, then the class votes on the flag.
How to use these teamwork reading passages in Grade 2
- Small-group reading, starting with “How to Be a Good Partner” at level K
- Partner practice with “The Partner Who Had a Different Plan”, then the two open-ended questions
- Quiet seatwork, checked with the answer key
- To open a lesson on teamwork, read “What Makes a Team a Team?” aloud
Grade fit
Second graders share jobs all day, and these passages stay close to that: an art station, a paper boat, a class book, a sandcastle built by one child or four. Levels move from K to M, and the four level M reading passages with questions give stronger readers a little more to work with.
