About this resource

Half of good communication is knowing when to talk. In these communication skills worksheets, Omari has test news while Mom is mid-story, and Kwesi spots the forgotten eggs while Grandma chats with the cashier. Grades 2–5 work through 180 moments like these, pick A, B or C and write why, building Relationship Skills for listening fully and speaking clearly.

What students practice

  • Whole-body listening with eyes, hands and body
  • Waiting for a pause instead of interrupting
  • Asking follow-up questions to keep a conversation going
  • Saying exactly what they mean
  • Matching voice, tone and body language to the moment
  • Saying hard things politely

What’s inside

  • 30 printable worksheets, each in one setting, from At the Dinner Table to While Biking
  • 180 multiple choice scenarios, six per page, each with a line to explain the choice
  • 4 teacher pages, including a discussion guide with a scoring note
  • 35 pages

A look inside

  • Sports Teams: “The away-game bus leaves at eight from the gym. Selin tells her team. She should:” (A) Say, “The bus is early, by the gym somewhere.” (B) Say, “Ask Coach,” and walk away. (C) Say, “Bus leaves at eight, from the gym door.”
  • At the Beach: “”I swam by a sea turtle,” he says.” Kalea can ask how close the turtle came and what it did, or say he saw a shark once.
  • Using Public Restrooms: “Wanda sees toilet paper stuck to her friend’s shoe.” Should she whisper, mention it later or point it out to everyone?

How to use these communication skills worksheets

  • Morning meeting: read Kalea’s scenario, then ask the guide’s question about what follow-up question students could ask to keep the conversation going
  • Partner practice in an SEL lesson: act out the Selin scenario three ways and listen for which message gives all the details
  • Before a field trip, use the At Museums page, where Ollie’s question to the guide comes out fast and jumbled
  • Small groups or sub plans, since each worksheet stands alone

Grade fit

The scenes come straight from family and school talk (passing on a plumber’s time, ordering at a restaurant, answering a neighbor), so second graders can do them aloud. Older students can dig into the near-miss options, like “He’s with Uncle Raf somewhere,” in their communication skills scenarios.

Digital version

The interactive digital version shares as one link: students pick A, B or C and type their reason, or just pick if you choose the choices-only format, on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Pairs well with

Pair with Active Listening and Clear Expression Activity Kit or the Communication Skills Task Cards.

Questions teachers ask

Is there an answer key?

No. A scoring note explains the pattern: the strongest choice listens with eyes and body, or speaks clearly and kindly at the right moment, and vague or rushed choices are weaker.

Do students need accounts for the digital version?

No. You share one link, and students open it on any device without logging in.
