About this resource
Some social skills only grow when students use them. These role play scenario cards put Grades 2–5 inside 56 everyday moments, like a lost library book, a lunchbox mix-up or nerves before a performance, so they can try a response, watch what happens and talk it through. The mixed set covers communication, empathy, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem-solving and self-awareness, and it builds Relationship Skills.
What students practice
- Handling conflict calmly
- Communicating under pressure
- Showing empathy
- Working as a team
- Connecting a scene to their own choices
What’s inside
- 56 role play scenario cards across communication, empathy, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem-solving and self-awareness
- 4 discussion questions on every card, including how a character feels, a time students faced something similar and next steps
- Color and black-and-white versions, 14 card pages each, 4 cards per page
- Teacher notes on running a session and adapting for younger and older students; 35 pages
A look inside
- “A box of crayons falls and breaks during art class.”
- “Mia gets nervous and forgets her lines during a rehearsal.”
- “Jayden’s special lunch is accidentally eaten by Casey, who mistook Jayden’s lunchbox for their own.”
How to use these role play scenario cards
- A student or the teacher picks a card and assigns roles: some students act, others observe
- Debrief with the four questions, where students say what they saw and connect it to their own choices
- Drama activities and morning meetings
- Small-group SEL sessions, counseling groups and partner practice
Grade fit
The scenes come from school days elementary students know, from art class to rehearsals, and the teacher notes explain how to adapt them, so the cards fit Grades 2–5.
Good to know
There are no role play scripts here: each card sets up a moment and students improvise, so allow a little open space for the actors and a clear view for the observers.

Questions teachers ask
Do students need scripts?
No. Each card sets up the moment and students make up their own words; the four questions guide the debrief afterward.
Is there a black-and-white version?
Yes. All 56 cards come in color and in black and white.
