A look inside

- The New Neighbor Nobody Introduced: Zaid brings his new neighbor to the park, then forgets to introduce him.
- Meet Valentina: The Badminton Club Good Sport: Valentina shakes hands after every match and says “good game,” even after a loss.
How to use these social skills reading passages in Grade 3
- Small groups at levels N–P, starting with the two level N passages
- Before a class discussion on manners, with “Why Do Manners Matter?” as the shared text
- As a lead-in to role-play: read “How to Break the Ice With Someone New” and let pairs try the four steps
- Independent practice, checked with the answer key
Grade fit
Third graders are ready to ask why manners work, and the set gives them the reasons. Levels rise from N to P, and the settings, from a badminton court to a playground game swap between classes, are places eight- and nine-year-olds already spend time.
