About this resource
Some children arrive at school already telling themselves what they can’t do. This positive self-talk mirror kit for kindergarten and first grade (Grades K–1) gives them kinder words to try, a hand mirror to say them into and sticky notes to keep those words in sight. It grows confidence as part of Self-Awareness, in SEL activities young children can repeat at home.

How to use this positive self-talk mirror kit for kindergarten
- Explain that self-talk is how we talk to ourselves in our minds, and that today the goal is kind words
- Give each child a hand mirror and sticky notes to write or draw affirmations around its edge
- Model one affirmation with a big smile, then have each child say one to their reflection
- Use the sticky-note starters for children who need a nudge, and close with the reflection sheet’s Terrible-to-Awesome rating
