About this resource

One splash in the face is an accident. A seat blocked every single day is not. These bullying prevention what would you do scenarios help Grades 2–5 tell the difference, then decide what to do as the target, the bystander or the friend who stays close afterward. Students stop and think, choose one of three action cards and explain it, building Relationship Skills.

What students practice

  • Telling bullying apart from a one-time unkind moment
  • Knowing what to do when someone bullies them
  • Standing with a classmate who is picked on, in safe ways
  • Telling a trusted adult, and knowing it isn’t tattling
  • Helping someone feel included once bullying stops

What’s inside

40scenario cards, eight per subtopic: Recognizing Bullying, Knowing What to Do When It Happens to Me, Becoming an Upstander, Reporting Safely and Supporting the Target
120action cards: most helpful, partly helpful and impulsive
40reflection sheets ending in “Your Turn! What Action Would You Take?”
  • Teacher guide with five classroom uses; 77 pages

A look inside

The Splash Battle: one big splash hits your face, and Teo says, “Oops, sorry! Too big!” The best card is Check the Signs.
Flicks From Behindfor the fourth morning in a row, Rocco flicks your ears on the bus. Tell the Driver, Get a Seat Saved or Duck Down Low?
The Tattletale Warning: Corwin keeps taking Isha’s snack and says, “Only tattletales tell.”

How to use these bullying prevention what would you do cards

Sort the actions for The Nickname Game into “Best Choice,” “Okay Choice” and “Not the Best Choice”
Role-play Kip Next to the Desk with a Freeze & Reflect pause

Grade fit

Every scene happens in person: 15 in the community (a rec center, a dugout, an ice rink), 14 at school and 11 at home. Short paragraphs and plain questions suit Grades 2–5, and the cards work as bullying prevention activities for counselor-led SEL groups.

Digital version

The interactive digital version shares as one link: students answer the think questions (or just read them in the quick format), choose an action card and say why, on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Good to know

No card asks a child to handle repeated bullying alone. Every Reporting Safely scene has a best card that goes to a trusted adult, and several later scenes begin after an adult has stepped in. A few early cards, like The Homemade Kite, are deliberately not bullying.

Pairs well with

Questions teachers ask

Are any of the scenarios about online bullying?

No. All 40 happen in person: on the bus, at recess, at swim lessons, at home. A few are deliberately not bullying, like one accidental splash or a friendly nickname game, so students practice telling the difference.

Which action card is the most helpful one?

In the printable set, card a is the most helpful, b is partly helpful and c acts on impulse. The digital version shuffles the order, so students have to think it through.
