About this resource

Two kids may hold the shelter kitten, and Zia gets to pick them. Who should it be? These community and fairness worksheets put Grades 2–5 in charge of turns, rules and shared spaces across 180 scenarios. Students choose A, B or C, then write why, and that’s where the real conversation about fair turns and a fair community starts. The set builds Social Awareness with a strong civic thread.

What students practice

  • Giving everyone an equal chance, with no favorites
  • Making fair rules for shared things
  • Caring for shared places
  • Speaking up when something is unfair
  • Taking part in class and community meetings

What’s inside

  • 30 printable worksheets, each in one setting, from Public Libraries to In the Garden
  • 180 multiple choice scenarios, 6 per worksheet, with a “Why did you choose this option?” line
  • Class votes, shared bins, waiting lines and neighborhood planning meetings
  • 4 teacher pages
  • 35 pages

A look inside

  • Pet Care: “At the shelter visit, two kids may hold the kitten, and Zia must pick them. She can:” (A) Mix all the names in a jar and pull two. (B) Pick two kids at the front of the group. (C) Pick herself and her best friend first.
  • Public Libraries: one family took all the library’s free seed packets for kids. Best: “Tell the librarian the kids’ packets are gone.”
  • During Playdates: the game rule says the newest kid is always it.

How to use these community and fairness worksheets

  • Morning meeting: debate the kitten scenario; picking the kids at the front is quick, but is it fair?
  • Small groups: practice taking part in the meeting scenarios, like planning a kite day or naming the bus
  • Classroom management support: before you set a rule for shared supplies, use the scenarios about three pairs of binoculars or two sinks

Grade fit

The problems are ones students meet every week (who goes first, who gets picked, who cleans up). Younger students can talk them through after a read-aloud; older students can write about when fair means everyone gets what they need.

Digital version

The interactive digital version shares as one link: students pick A, B or C and type their reason, or just pick if you choose the choices-only format, on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Good to know

The scoring note says fair can mean everyone gets what they need, not always the same amount, so accept a well-reasoned need-based answer. Taking an unfair problem to the right person right away also counts as strong, useful in any SEL talk about speaking up.

The Community and Fairness What Would You Do? Cards and Community and Fairness Scenario Cards cover the same ground in card form.

Questions teachers ask

Does fair always mean equal here?

No. The teacher notes say fair can mean everyone gets what they need, and a well-reasoned need-based answer is accepted in discussion.

Is there an answer key?

No. A scoring note on the discussion page explains stronger and weaker choices.

Do students need accounts for the digital version?

No. You share a link that opens on any device, no logins.
