About this resource

Kindness gets mentioned so often that it can turn into a slogan. These kindness conversation cards bring it back to specifics, with 102 morning meeting questions about small acts, kind words, noticing who needs help and the kindness that takes effort. For Grades 2–8, they build Social Awareness.

What students practice

  • Finding small, everyday ways to be kind
  • Choosing kind words and giving real compliments
  • Spotting when someone could use a hand
  • Staying kind when it is hard
  • Seeing how one kind act can spread

What’s inside

  • 102 discussion questions, 17 in each of six focus areas: Small acts of kindness; Kind words; Noticing who needs help; Kindness at home and at school; Kindness that is hard; Kindness that spreads
  • Strategy is the biggest question type (22), so many cards ask what a student could do or say
  • Printable cards (six per page) and 102 matching reflection sheets (two per page)
  • 75 pages

A look inside

  • “Which acts of kindness cost no money at all?”
  • “What makes a compliment feel true instead of fake?”
  • “What helps you stay kind to someone who was rude earlier?”
  • “Why might kindness spread faster when nobody keeps score?”

How to use these kindness conversation cards in morning meeting

  • Morning meeting: one card, a turn-and-talk partner, then a few shares
  • Buddy activities with the Kind words cards, where partners come up with a compliment that isn’t about looks
  • SEL discussions built around Kindness that is hard
  • Writing prompts on the reflection sheets, such as what to write in a kind note to a classmate

Grade fit

The settings range from the bus, the playground and a grandparent’s house to a substitute teacher’s day and a classmate on crutches. Questions about staying kind when nobody says thank you give older students real material, which is why the set also serves as conversation starters for middle school.

Digital version

The digital version turns the questions into one link: students answer on any device with no student logins and download an answer sheet to hand in.

Questions teachers ask

Do the questions go beyond school?

Yes. One focus area covers kindness at home, with questions about siblings, grandparents and a tired parent, and others reach the bus, the park, sports practice and a neighbor.

Can I use the cards without printing?

Yes. The digital version shares as one link, and students answer on any device with no logins.
