About this resource

How does a group of eight-year-olds turn four separate ideas into one finished project? These teamwork reading comprehension passages give Grade 3 readers ten texts at F&P levels N–P on why clear roles matter, how a group reaches a decision, and what to do when a teammate stops pitching in. The set builds Relationship Skills in your reading time and works alongside other teamwork activities for kids in the classroom.

What students practice

  • Dividing jobs by strengths
  • Making fair group decisions
  • Including a teammate who isn’t helping
  • Accepting help from teammates
  • Leading by including everyone

What’s inside

  • 10 passages at F&P levels N–P, including a fable, a science piece and a concept explainer
  • 5 multiple-choice items per passage, with some word-meaning checks
  • 2 open prompts per passage that students answer in their own words
  • A short lesson statement after each reading
  • Answer key for the multiple-choice items on the last page
  • 44 pages

A look inside

  • The Monkeys’ Mango Plan: one monkey climbs, one passes, one catches and one guards the pile.
  • When One Teammate Isn’t Helping: Zhen doodles during deadline week until his newspaper team asks what’s going on.
  • Boss or Team Leader?: two leaders make a class cookbook, one giving orders and one sharing the jobs.
  • Meet Yosef: The Model Rocket Builder: his rocket club rotates builder, designer, tester and recorder.

How to use these teamwork reading passages in Grade 3

  • Small-group instruction at levels N–P, beginning with the monkeys’ fable
  • An SEL lesson on group choices using “Five Steps to a Group Decision”
  • A warm-up before a shared class job, such as reading “Library Bake Sale Brings the Whole Class Together”
  • Independent practice, checked with the answer key

Grade fit

Third graders are starting to work in real groups with real deadlines, and these passages show what that looks like: a maker club bird feeder, a diorama, a fall leaf museum. These reading passages with questions climb from N to P, ending with an explainer that breaks cooperation into four parts.

Digital version

With the interactive digital version, you share one link and students read each passage and answer the questions on any device, with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.
