About this resource

Ramona shovels in cereal while hunting for a missing shoe and barely tastes a bite. These mindfulness role play scenarios slow moments like that down: twenty scripted scenes for Grades 2–5 where the Mindfulness Learner, rushing or distracted, chooses to notice what’s happening right now. It’s Self-Management practiced through the five senses, body scans and the mindful pause.

What students practice

  • Doing everyday things mindfully
  • Noticing with the five senses
  • Doing a body scan
  • Giving one task full attention
  • Taking a mindful pause

What’s inside

20scripted scenes; five include an imaginary Nature Explorer, played by a classmate, who only asks questions
100discussion cards, five per scene, such as “Eyes Here, Brain There” and “Heel, Then Toe”
  • A detailed teacher script and an outline
  • Objectives, an optional five-senses or body-scan visual aid, prop ideas and tips; 50 pages

A look inside

Listening to the Rainstuck on her uncle’s porch instead of biking, Yuna closes her eyes to listen to the rain on the roof and smell the wet earth.
The Balance Beambefore stepping onto the low beam, Xiomara notices her toes, knees and arms one by one.
The Rushed Morning GoodbyeRuslan almost races past his mom on the day she leaves for a three-day work trip, then takes ten seconds for a real goodbye.

The Puzzle Cube Distraction, The Spice Aisle and The Top of the Ferris Wheel are a few more.

How to use these mindfulness role play scenarios

Open with the 5–7 minute introduction, then assign roles, including the Nature Explorer where a scene has one
Act out a scene for 10–15 minutes and talk about what the character noticed once they slowed down
Redo it with the character pausing even sooner and compare what they notice
Wrap up with 5–10 minutes of sharing and that scene’s five discussion cards

Grade fit

The noticing stays concrete: spice smells in a grocery aisle, buttons that clink like rain, hot toes and a cool face under a beach umbrella. Students can read the role play scripts or improvise, which makes the set easy to fit into SEL time for Grades 2–5.
