About this resource

Zuzu’s teacher praises a drawing Zuzu didn’t make, and staying quiet would be easy. These honesty reading comprehension passages give Grade 2 readers ten short, lively texts at F&P levels K–M about telling the truth, returning what isn’t theirs and doing their job when no one is looking. It’s a Responsible Decision-Making set that slips right into your reading block.

What students practice

  • Telling the truth so the right person gets credit
  • Returning what isn’t theirs
  • Making promises they can really keep
  • Playing games fairly
  • Saying “I’m not sure” instead of pretending to know

What’s inside

  • 10 passages at F&P levels K–M, from a fox fable to a profile of a weekend umpire
  • A short summary of the lesson at the end of each passage
  • 5 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-ended questions per passage
  • MCQ answer key on the last page
  • 34 pages

A look inside

  • The Fox Who Told Tall Tales: a fox who claims he can fly to the moon finds the forest animals believing less and less of what he says.
  • The Found Dollar: Yusuf hands in a dollar from the classroom floor, and it turns out to be Vera’s milk money.
  • The Bird That Pretends to Be Hurt: a killdeer’s broken-wing act is instinct, but people can choose to be honest.
  • Peeking or Playing Fair?: two seekers count in hide-and-seek, one peeking through her fingers and one with her eyes closed.

How to use these honesty reading passages in Grade 2

  • Read aloud as a class, starting with Whose Drawing Is It? at level K
  • Reading buddies, who talk through the two open-ended questions together
  • Open a class talk or an SEL reading comprehension lesson with What Is Honesty? and its pretend-game-versus-fib examples

Grade fit

Levels start at K and reach M for the last four passages. The moments are ones seven- and eight-year-olds know well: a chair-stacking job, a game of hide-and-seek, a found dollar, a drawing on the art table. Short sentences and familiar settings keep these reading passages with questions within reach of young readers.

Digital version

With the interactive digital version, you share one link and students read each passage and answer the questions on any device, with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Questions teachers ask

Is there an answer key?

Yes. The multiple-choice answers are on the last page of the PDF. The open-ended questions have no fixed answer.

Does the set explain the difference between a fib and pretending?

Yes. What Is Honesty? shows that in a pretend game everyone knows it’s make-believe, while a fib tricks someone.

Do students need accounts for the digital version?

No. You share one link, and students open it on any device without logging in.
