About this resource

Ask a class how they’re feeling and most answers stop at one word. These self-awareness conversation cards offer 102 morning meeting questions that go further: into body signals, the inner voice, mistakes, values and the things that set feelings off. The whole set is free with a free account (no card needed), and it fits Grades 2–8.

What students practice

  • Noticing and naming their own feelings
  • Reading body signals like a racing heart or a lump in the throat
  • Recognizing their strengths and building confidence
  • Using kind, truthful self-talk
  • Learning from mistakes and knowing what they value
  • Spotting what triggers their feelings

What’s inside

102discussion questions covering ten areas of Self-Awareness, from Identifying and Naming Your Emotions to Noticing What Triggers Your Feelings (ten questions per area, twelve in the last)
75pages
  • A numbered question list with each question’s type: observation, analytical, reflection, strategy and other types, plus nine “Tell about a time” prompts
  • Full-color cards, six per page on 17 pages, plus 102 matching reflection sheets, two per page

A look inside

Body signals: “What does a lump in your throat tell you about how you feel?”
Confidence: “What is the difference between being confident and being bossy?”
Self-talk: “Which words you say to yourself would you want a friend to borrow?”
Values: “What is something you would keep doing even if nobody thanked you?”

How to use these self-awareness conversation cards in morning meeting

Open morning meeting with one card, a turn-and-talk, then a few students sharing with the circle; the Identifying and Naming Your Emotions cards make an easy first week
Post a question of the day and let students answer on sticky notes as they come in
Keep the triggers cards in the calm corner, so a student can pick one and reflect quietly or with a trusted adult
Pair any card with its numbered reflection sheet for an SEL journal entry

Grade fit

A second grader can answer “How do your cheeks feel when you get embarrassed?” straight from experience. The values and triggers questions, such as how being compared to someone else can stir up feelings, give older students something real to think through, so the cards work as conversation starters for middle school as well as in elementary classrooms.

Digital version

The digital version turns the questions into one link: students answer on any device with no student logins and download an answer sheet to hand in.

Pairs well with

Questions teachers ask

Is this the full set or a sample?

It’s the full set: 102 question cards and 102 reflection sheets, free with a free account.

How is this different from the topic sets?

It touches all ten areas of Self-Awareness with about ten questions each. A topic set such as Identifying Triggers stays with one area for all of its questions.

Do students need accounts for the digital version?

No. You share one link, and students answer on any device without logging in.
