About this resource

Setting a limit without starting drama is a skill. These respecting boundaries reading comprehension passages give Grade 4 readers ten texts at F&P levels Q–S, with a porcupine, a poet and a wolf pack among the readings. The set builds Relationship Skills, one of the five CASEL competencies, by reading the room and responding well.

What students practice

  • Setting a boundary without making the other person defensive
  • Reading the room before anyone has to say anything
  • Accepting that some people need more space than others
  • Showing respect differently across cultures
  • Moving from recognition to apology to repair

What’s inside

  • 10 passages at F&P levels Q–S, in text types such as how-to guides, science pieces and student profiles
  • 5 multiple-choice questions per passage
  • 2 open-ended questions per passage for written answers or discussion
  • Answer key covering all 50 boundaries multiple-choice questions
  • 37 pages, with an overview page of levels, text types and SEL focus
