About this resource

The clock glows 9:47, the chapter ends on a cliffhanger, and the next one is six pages long. These self-care scenario cards put Grades 2–6 students in 60 everyday choices about sleep, water, hygiene, screens and play, and ask, “What does self-care look like here?” It’s Self-Management at its most practical: small routines that care for body and mind.

What students practice

  • Building bedtime routines and choosing rest
  • Planning water, snacks and fresh air for busy days
  • Keeping up hygiene habits, from hand-washing to clean gear
  • Stopping and switching when screen time is up
  • Protecting time for play and hobbies

What’s inside

60cards across five themes of 12: Sleep and Rest; Food, Water, and Fresh Air; Keeping Clean and Healthy; Screens and Balance; Time for Fun and Hobbies
158black-and-white pages
  • An open-ended card (“What does self-care look like here?”) and a guided card with three questions for each scenario
  • Two journal pages per scenario, 120 in total

A look inside

The Autoplay Countdown: “Next episode in 5…4…” while a half-drawn dragon waits in your sketchbook. The guided card opens with “What is the screen doing right now?”
The Farm Trip Handsafter feeding goats and brushing a pony, the hand-washing station has a short line, and your friends are already running to the picnic tables.
The Missing Bottlefor the third day this week, your water bottle stayed home, still full on the kitchen counter.

How to use these self-care scenario cards

Read a Sleep and Rest card at morning meeting and talk about what helps a body wind down
Teach the themes as separate SEL lessons; Screens and Balance gives you 12 self-care scenarios about stopping and switching
Use the guided cards in small groups to slow down choices like the autoplay countdown or a low-battery message
Set out cards with their journal pages at an independent center

Grade fit

Bedtimes, gym bags, tablets and hobbies are part of daily life from second grade on. Screen-time scenes like The Twenty-Minute Level speak just as directly to sixth graders who manage more of their own time, so these self-care activities fit the full Grades 2–6 range.

Digital version

The printable and digital scenario cards work together: share one link, pick the open-ended or guided format, and students respond on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Questions teachers ask

Does the set cover healthy eating?

Within Food, Water, and Fresh Air, yes: packing water and snacks for busy days, balance and variety at mealtimes, and making time to get outside.

Can I teach one theme at a time?

Yes. The cards are grouped into five themes of 12, and the teacher pages suggest SEL lessons one theme at a time.
