About this resource

Freckles, a bright blue hearing aid, a leap day birthday, a soft spot for a cartoon about singing trains. These self-acceptance scenario cards look at the parts of themselves kids sometimes try to hide, in 60 moments for Grades 2–6. Each open-ended card asks, “How could you accept yourself here?” and the set builds Self-Awareness by having students treat themselves the way they would treat a good friend.

What students practice

  • Noticing how they see their own looks and style
  • Making peace with things they can’t change
  • Enjoying what they like without hiding it
  • Being gentle with their own imperfections
  • Answering curious questions while staying themselves

What’s inside

  • Five themes with 12 scenarios each: My Looks and My Style, Things I Can’t Change, Liking What I Like, Imperfect and Still Okay, When Others Don’t Get It
  • An open-ended version with “How could you accept yourself here?” and a guided version with three questions
  • 120 matching journal pages
  • 158 printable pages, four cards per sheet

A look inside

  • The Face-Paint Booth: you point at your freckles and ask the painter, “Can you just paint over all of these?”
  • The Accordion Records: alone in Grandpa’s basement, you bounce around to his old records, then stop and hold the record still.
  • The Rocket Socks: a kid on the bus looks at your mismatched socks and asks, “Wait, are those supposed to be different?”

How to use these self-acceptance scenario cards

  • Start with Liking What I Like at morning meeting; self-acceptance scenarios like The Hairbrush Song are light enough for a whole-class talk
  • Save Things I Can’t Change for small groups or counseling sessions, where students may share more
  • Use the guided cards as social situation cards for partner work on When Others Don’t Get It, planning a calm answer to a curious question
  • Pair a card with its journal page for quiet reflection in an SEL journal

Grade fit

Picture day, bus rides and Grandma’s doorframe height marks are second-grade territory. The topics themselves, like height, voice and personal style, matter just as much in Grade 6, and the open-ended card gives older students room to say so.

Digital version

The printable and digital scenario cards work together: share one link, pick the open-ended or guided format, and students respond on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Good to know

Several cards in My Looks and My Style and Things I Can’t Change center on a physical feature, such as freckles, height, glasses or a hearing aid. Skim those themes first if a student in your class shares one of those features.

Pairs well with

Pair with Self-Acceptance Task Cards or Self-Acceptance Worksheets.

Questions teachers ask

Is the set just about appearance?

No. My Looks and My Style is one of five themes. The others cover things you can’t change, liking what you like, imperfections, and moments when others don’t get it.

Do students need a login for the digital version?

No. Share one link; students respond on any device and download an answer sheet at the end.
