About this resource

“BlueFox22 wants to be your friend!” says a request from a name your student has never seen. These digital citizenship scenario cards stop at moments like that one, 60 in all, and ask “What is the safe, kind choice online?” Written for Grades 2–6, they build Responsible Decision-Making about privacy, kind words, tricky messages and what stays online.

What students practice

  • Recognizing private information and pausing before sharing it
  • Choosing kind words and noticing tone in typed messages
  • Spotting warning signs in messages and knowing when to get a grown-up
  • Checking a source and comparing more than one
  • Thinking about who might read a post years from now

What’s inside

  • 60 cards across five themes of 12: Keeping My Information Private, Kind Words Online, Strangers and Tricky Messages, Is It True? Checking Information, and My Digital Footprint
  • Open-ended and guided versions of each scenario, with three questions on the guided card
  • Two journal pages for each scenario
  • Cards formatted four per page in black and white; 158 pages

A look inside

  • The Reading App Password: a classmate leans over while you type and grins, “Ooh, I bet I can guess it.”
  • The Look-Alike Message: a message from “Miaa” says “OMG is this you in this video?? Click here!” and your cousin never writes like that.
  • The Sponsored Result: you search how tall a giraffe is, and the top result, marked “Sponsored,” is selling giraffe toys.
  • The Yearbook Quote: you type a joke about Room 9’s squeaky chairs for an online yearbook quote that will stay up for years.

How to use these digital citizenship scenario cards

  • Use one theme per SEL lesson, such as Is It True? Checking Information
  • Read a Strangers and Tricky Messages card aloud and talk through which grown-up to ask
  • Use the guided cards for partner work or a writing center
  • Pick digital citizenship scenarios for small groups and finish with a journal page

Grade fit

The screens in these cards are ones elementary students already use: a school laptop, a family tablet, a kid-safe drawing game. The footprint and source-checking cards, including a fifth grader’s yearbook quote, give Grade 5 and 6 students real decisions to weigh.

Digital version

The printable and digital scenario cards work together: share one link, pick the open-ended or guided format, and students respond on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.

Good to know

Cards like The Fox Friend Request and The Look-Alike Message stop just before anything gets clicked, and their guided questions ask which grown-up could help. That keeps the focus on what to do next.
