About this resource
Ask a class how everyone feels and you’ll hear “fine” twenty times. These free self-awareness task cards give students 100 everyday moments to look at, from holding a neighbor’s baby chick to a song from a cousin’s wedding, each with short questions about what is going on inside. The full set is free with a free account (no card needed), written for Grades 2–5, and built on Self-Awareness, the CASEL competency of knowing your own feelings, strengths and values.
What students practice
- Naming a feeling and how big it is
- Reading body clues like loose arms or a hot face
- Finding a strength, even inside a hard trait
- Noticing their self-talk and trying kinder words
- Spotting what sparks a feeling, from first snow to certain people
What’s inside
- 100 task cards: Set A (A1–A50) for Grades 2–3 and Set B (B1–B50) for Grades 4–5
- Ten areas, five cards per set each: emotions, body signals, strengths, confidence, self-talk, mistakes, values, reflection, self-acceptance and triggers
- A Card Themes at a Glance page and two layouts (2 or 4 cards per page)
- A second file with a reflection sheet (journal page) for every card: 81 pages of task cards plus 103 journal pages
A look inside
Set A: “A lawn mower roars to life right under your bedroom window. What feeling jumps up inside? Is it a little or a lot? What word could you say?”
Set B: “Some people call you stubborn, but it’s what keeps you practicing hard tricks. How could being stubborn also be a strength? When does it help you the most?”
Set B: “You say reading matters to you, but you haven’t opened a book in two weeks. What might be pulling your time away? What does this tell you about your values?”
How to use these self-awareness task cards
Grade fit
Set A (labeled Grades 2–3) keeps to one clear moment per card: a hammock, a reading nook. Set B (Grades 4–5) asks harder things, like why pride and feeling lost can arrive together on the first day of fourth grade.
Digital version
The interactive digital task cards share as one link: you choose Set A or Set B, and students type their answers on any device with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.
Good to know
Cards B1, B4 and B5 touch on a move or a new baby; read them first if a student is living through one.
