About this resource
At the rock pool, Deniz’s friends want to take two crabs home in buckets. These personal values reading comprehension passages help Grade 5 readers notice when what they say matters and how they spend their time don’t match, across ten texts at F&P levels S–V. Students build Self-Awareness by looking at values as an anchor, a life path and a guide for the week ahead.
What students practice
- Matching how they spend their time to their values
- Writing and revising a personal values statement
- Comparing values across generations
- Connecting values to the person they hope to become
- Finding the value behind their own vote
What’s inside
- A takeaway at the end of every passage
- Multiple-choice answer key on the last page
A look inside
How to use these personal values reading passages
Grade fit
Fifth graders are starting to plan their own time, which makes the calendar guide and the values statement feel real rather than abstract. Levels start at S and reach V, where Faisal’s vote and Giovanna’s statement close the set. These reading passages with questions also take on bigger ideas, like a sense of purpose and a seed-saving swap run by fifth graders at the community garden.
Digital version
With the interactive digital version, you share one link and students read each passage and answer the questions on any device, with no student logins. At the end they download an answer sheet to hand in.
